Drug Addiction Rehabilitation Program
The number of people that are struggling with substance abuse is rapidly increasing worldwide and so is the demand for effective drug addiction rehabilitation program.
However, people that struggle with drug addiction are often ashamed and afraid to ask for help from drug abuse recovery clinics. Highlands drug addiction rehabilitation clinic know of this struggle and are able to walk this difficult journey with you.
Drug Addiction is widely recognised to be the combination of a physical compulsion (to use drugs) and a mental obsession about them. It is often accompanied by denial and minimisation of there being a problem in most stages and justification for continuing to use.
Often the addict wants to stop but is unable to on their own strength, despite repeated attempts to do so. The definition of addiction is powerlessness over something. Therefore being able to stop is not possible.
Drugs can take over the addict’s life often costing the individual their morals and self-esteem. For many it will lead to poor health, the end of significant relationships, financial ruin, jail and eventually death. Addiction is an illness, and rehab can be the solution for the patient to recover. Whether the person is using prescription medication or illegal drugs the behaviours; obsessions and consequences are the same.
The use of many illegal drugs with various ‘street names’ such as: cannabis; ecstasy; cocaine; crack; heroin; amphetamines; tik; ghb; lsd, (and many others) or prescription drugs such as: sleeping tablets; slimming tablets; cough medicine; opioids; codeine and benzodiazepine can be controlled by the addict initially but then quickly spiral out of control.
A person does not need to be near death to stop using. It may be that you feel you have not reached that dangerous level but you are still aware that you need help. Drug addictions characteristics include:
- A desire (but not a compulsion) to continue taking the drug for the sense of improved well-being which it causes
- Little or no tendency to increase the dose
- Some degree of psychological dependence on the effect of the drug, but absence of physical dependence [withdrawal]
- Detrimental effects, if any, primarily on the individual
